Hi All- I went to a very good petstore the other day, and the clerk told me that you can use tuffa rock in a mbuna aquarium to raise the PH. (Went to the store to get a little bit more crushed coral, however when I told them that I have a large peice of tuffa they told me not to add anything else.)

Has anyone else ever heard of using tuffa rock in a mbuna tank to keep things established and at acceptable levels?

If this is the same as lace rock( im pretty sure it is) yes this will raise your Ph. I hav bout 50 pounds of it in my tank.

I have about 7 pounds in my 30 gallon, does it matter how much you have? I could always get some more, but i didn't want things to get too outta whack!

Tufa rock will affect the PH to some degree, and (more importantly) help buffer the water. Obviously the more you use the more of an affect it will have. Use as much as you want and monitor the water, how much affect it has depends on the parameters of the water that you are starting with.
