Tubifex worms

tubifex worms are actually really good for the fish if they are cleaned properly. however, they can carry diseases and can infect and potentially kill the fish

since they're dried, i don't think they can carry any parasites. i think it would be fine. i've heard that some fish don't like them so you can just try and see if your fish will eat them.

Hi Jug :)

I use the freeze dried tubiflex worms with my fish and they pretty much all eat them. :D

You can break them up and put them on top of the water like flakes. Or, if you have some fish that will only eat if the food is drifting through the water, (or for bottom feeders like corys) you can hold it under the water until it gets wet and then rub the cube between your finger to separate the worms and make them sink.

Or, you can break a piece off and press it onto the glass. I have a big mystery snail that likes to eat them this way. (but they won't stay stuck on the glass for very long)

I don't know of any bad side to them. They are quite nutritious and the fish find them tasty.

Tubifex worms are grown in chicken manure and are often not sterilized. One of my angels died because the worms gave her an internal bacteria problem.

Hi gto_cowgirl :)

I've never heard of anyone having this kind of problem with freeze dried worms and I doubt that any organisms could survive the process.

What do you mean by "internal bacterial problem?" and what evidence do you have that the worms were responsible for causing it? -_-

I don't use frozen tubifex and after reading this post I am never using it! But I used to culture lots of tibifex in my fish-less invertibrate pond. My Convict cichlids loved them, but I dont take the chance with my more precious fish.
