Hey guys,
Just trying to pick out a few cichlids to complete my tank and was wondering if anyone could help me with a good, even tempered red peacock. I've seen several red ones with other accent colors, but I'm looking for the brightest red I can find. Any ideas?
thanks!

Hmmm, red...

Many Aulonocara can get very bright orange? I'd avoid Hemichromis, I'm not sure if you've been tempted, but in my experience they go poorly with Malawi's despite being quite a bright red colour.

Either Firefish or Jacobfreibergi Eureka colour select :good:

Be careful if you get a Firefish and where it comes from though because a lot of the foreign imports are very, very aggressive. The bloke I bought all of my fish from sells line bred so they`re excellent quality and all proper, not cross bred or foreign imports B-)

i got mine from a guy called mal on aqua classifieds he had them imported from Holland
they are the best red linebreds ive seen! as they still have a good aulonocara shape :good:

Thanks for the vids Elise! I do already have a German firefish, and it's from a very trusted breeder I've got here in the States. I can only hope he turns out as beautiful as the one in the video. He's still a juvenile, so we've got some time. Rifty- beautiful fish. Love the egg spots.

Bright orange? That sounds really nice. Any experience with Orange Aulonocara? I'd love to google some images and try to locate one.

they are normally a biproduct of firefish breeding i get them in fry
this was the best example ive had

If you have time, have a quick nose through the thread I started when I setup my Malawi tank. Malawi, mbuna and haps that are a big mix of colours:

Hey- My new firefish looks exactly like the peachy-colored fish at the right of that photo. Is that a juvenile male or a female? I was told I had a male and can kind of start seeing his color develop, but it still looks almost exactly like the one in your photo. Let me know when you can.

Hmm, I'll have to sort it out but there are a few vids and lots of pics on the thread to give you an idea of different reds and oranges, the pics start from about half way down this page:

thats a female but the fry start off this colour until about 1 inch then get darker
if its bigger than 1 inch it may still go dark but they linebred aulonocara are a real mixed bag of colours from pale orange to red so you will have to wait it out :good:

I've got a pic of (he/she) but I can't figure out how to post it. I'm being asked for a url (http://......). I'm pretty good with computers, but now i feel dumb :) Can you help me?!!

you need to use a site like photobucket to upload the photo then cut n paste the url on here :good:

Here's the link to photobucket. Is there a chance it could be a female? It's starting to get some red around its face, but it's very faint.
