Got myself one tungston Glass cutter... (40$).... sheet of 4mm glass....60cm x 60cm sq....(12$)....

At least I've still got the glasscutter in one piece.... I'm trying to build my photography tank here...(separate topic elsewhere)

I've watched them... they make it look so easy... (what is the trick)?... have to go back now & get another sheet of glass.

Do your glass supplier cut for you, or do you just buy a standard piece of glass off the shelf and then have to cut for yourself?

oh dear!
BigC is your man on this one( glazier and makes his own tanks).. tho im sure a suplier wouldnt have any problem cutting it to your requirments.. also sure it can`t be that difficult to do.......( who am i kidding

I've cut my own glass and made my own tanks without a problem before.. what sort of cutter have you got? One of the hand held pieces which feeds mineral oil onto the blade as you cut? If it is, take it slow and press down firmly with it. Then place the glass over an edge (I used end of patio) with the score on the edge and press firmly on the part hanging free. I always wear thick workman's gloves when working with glass, just to be on the safer side! My glass cutter was a cheapie $4 job, so I'm sure yours should work better!

When you score the glass with the cutter use 1 smoothe motion. Don't go back over a score at all or it won't work. Also, when snapping the glass along the score, don't be afraid of it. If you don't do it firmly it'll break wrong and there's more of a chance of cutting yourself. I used to cut glass for a living and used to snap full sheets (1.5m x 3m or more) up on the edge of the bench without a problem. Just make sure whatever you're snapping it on is very slightly padded or it could shatter. Just a single thickness of tea towel or something would do. People tend to be overly afraid of it understandably but you just have to respect it. You can be fairly rough with it without breaking it.
Good luck. :good:

makes me think of having to take down this greenhouse for an old granny, this house must've been ther 30-40yrs and all the wood wasrotting out and even though the glass was that old (thin stuff too) it was strong and you could throw it onto the grass ok without breaking it, just dont be afraid to mess up be firm knowing your doing it right and it will break allong that score, above all be careful for fk sake
