On many occasions I have been messed around by buyers and occassionally sellers on the forum.
How would you feel about forum members rating their transactions if they wanted to.
This could then be used as a referance point for users of the for sale section before involving themselves in transactions.
Simple posts like " recieved goods as described in quick time" etc
Obviously negative posts could also be left when people were not happy giving a heads up to all other users.
What do you think ??

i think it could be a good idea but could also start a heck of alot of fighting and arguments :p

That is a very good idea and very befitting of a forum where the sole purpose is the business of buying and selling.

We are a fish forum exclusively and although we do allow transactions to take place between individuals (with the understanding that it is done at their own risk), we are not equipped with the means and/or knowledge to judge between what is considered to be a fair deal or not and subsequently, we distance ourselves from the probability of any of our members being cast in negative reputation due to a transaction going wrong due to circumstances beyond his/her control.

For this reason, we do have a reporting system in place, so that any member who feels that he/she has been deceived by another member, such member can be reported to the moderators for further investigation (behind the scenes) and a course of action be implemented based on the findings of such investigations.

I don't feel that it is a terrible idea
I feel that by not giving users of the sale section the right to leave feedback for others is open to abuse by some which in turn causes bad feeling towards the site as a whole.
I am convinced that my experiences are not an exception and I'm sure that forum members are intelligent enough to interpret comments left.
Not wanting an argument here just looking for an answer to an extremely annoying problem.

I think that a section for it is a bad idea. But leaving feedback on the original thread is a perfectly sound idea (most people already do). That way if you want to try to proove you are a trusted seller/buyer then you can just point people to your past threads where you have bought/sold.

If someone has bought something from you, ask them to leave feedback on the thread, if you have sold something ask them to leave feedback... that'd probabaly work well :)

as ludwig says. THIS IS NOT AN EBAY.

we dont even have post reps. why start it in sales?
if you want sales feedback, try another site.

an utterly terrible idea, with nothing to do with fish, involved. my the idea RIP.

its not a bad idea, its like a "trust" thing, i use it on anouther forum and it works perfectl and makes the place safe to trade at....however it is up to the mods at the end of the day

I have suggested this before and been shot for it too, I seriously think something would be needed as I used to come on here and sell fishy stuff but I got let down so much it infuriated me and I lost sales of the item due to being messed around.

I just do not think this site is willing to come into 21st century

We could just not allow buying and selling at all... A lot of forums have that rule.

Here's the sticking point. To do it right, someone would actually need to monitor it. Since this is a world-wide forum, that would involve hiring 3 people, 1 person to do an 8 hour shift each. Which means we'd have to pay someone. Which means that the forum would either need to take a cut or charge to use the for sale section. And, we'd have to set up all the software to make sure that the transactions are secure, etc. And take some responsibility for dissatisfied customers -- both buyers and sellers.

This is a lot to ask of a free forum, run by an all-volunteer group.

Or, we could allow a section, and then note repeatedly, caveat emptor, let the buyer beware. Again, we could just not have the section and tell you all to go to eBay, craigslist, etc. etc. Is is really that hard to do a little research about a buyer or seller? A quick use of the search box should clear it up in just a few minutes, if you have any doubts.

I think that we do a pretty decent job for a free service on a free forum.

Maybe the question really is then: how many people would be willing to pay for a service with ratings and security, etc? If enough people are willing to pay, that opens up a lot more possibilities.
