Sounds good, only problems may be livestock, the dp's will more than likely go for ottos IMO, and i'd pick a bigger species of shrimp, like amano's or tigers..

Been looking at tiger shrimp and, they're quite nice cheers, may also go for some red nose shrimp, do you know where I can get some moss from? The Aquatic room doesn't have any.

The planted section is dead now! I remember when it was full of people, now we hardly get any posts, where have they all gone? UKAPS? don't blame 'em

Cheers, Jack

I understand your concern and also notice the lack of action in this section. I'm fine with discussing this out in the open. It's completely true and I don't blame UKAPS. I do blame myself to some extent. I am not able to post as much as I would like to because my mod duties kind of take me away from this section, which is where I'd much rather be. But there is a downturn throughout many forums. The poor economy can possiblity account for some of it. School, work, for others. It depends. On average, it is more expensive to setup a planted tank, especially if it has all the bells and whistles, and if you invest in good quality plants. Even it you do manage to cut costs on CO2 and EI with DIY projects, it is still more initial cost than the average fish-only setup. It takes special people to want to invest in both plants and fish, to create the tanks that we as a group create. In these leaner times, it may not be feasible for everyone. I've had to downgrade and am now down to only 2 planted tanks, whereas before I had four.

You don't have to let it die, though. You can certainly come post in my remaining journal threads, I'll post in yours, and we'll get the ball rolling again! :good:

By the way, the tank is going to be very nice. I agree about the shrimp, though, think bigger. Granted, you'll have happy puffers, but you'll be wasting the shrimp money.

I think its more of a "had to happen sometime" thing, the knowledge of planted tanks is spreading, and due to the products that are availible(in the last 2 years) its becoming easier to keep a high tech planted tank, i belive people liken that with a stand alone plant forum and choose such a forum as a place to discuss it, with people that keep nothing but planted tanks, so, move away from all of the other "parts" of the hobby..

tbh, I havnt been using the planted forums as much in the last few months, but, will do, lets get the show back on the road!

You are absolutely right. The information is more readily available and this will lead to migration to more specific forums. I have even done this in a quest for more specific information. On the flip side, there is pleasure in helping a member who has previously kept only fish take the plunge and keep a beautiful planted tank, which is why I remain here rather than spend more time in more specific forums. Yes, they often move on when their skills improve and become more advanced than I will ever be, but there are always more questions to answer. More newbies to help. I may not be able to help with the more advanceds apsects of the hobby, but it is still only about growing plants, and that I can still do, despite using only yeast fermentation CO2, less advanced ferts, and older lighting. :D

Tiger shrimps aren't that much bigger than cherries though. Still, very nice shrimps :)

Will be watching this thread :good:

(I don't care if they say we're out of it, because it doesn't bloody feel like it!) Hoping to pick up a few plants tomorrow, Probably some Cryptocoryne willisii and H.polysperma If I can find some, also I have some moss that should be with me in the next week or so.

I hear you. The swear filter heard you too.

The economy has been hard on this aspect of the hobby. Especially on the US end.

have you thought about plantedbox? maybe give james a PM? he sorted me out really nicely.

are you entering IAPLC? - if not this tank might be worth entering! im certainly going for it.

Will try the planted box, I looked on their site but some plants have to be ordered in minimums of 6 when I last looked.

I may enter, but I wont do very well for sure, firstly I'm not using ADA products, which generally all of the top rated tanks do (don't know if this is some form of biased judging) I've seen some awful scapes, but because they're using ADA products it bumps up their score.

Cheers,

At Llj's request I shall update this journal, it's not really gone anywhere in terms of progress, as I'm just getting money together for it at the moment, as I have been spending cash on other things, which has left my short on my fish keeping budget.

Cheers,

what have you got running at the moment in the way of tanks, Truck?
