Tropical To Marine

I recently purchased a 400l juewl rio tank to house my tropical fish. Been thinking about moving to marines for a while however. Just wanting to know what I would need to get it up and running and how much it is going to cost me roughly.

I have the same tank, the main costs involved would be for:

Live rock approx 50Kg at lets say £5 a k (if form a reefer breaking down a tank) £275
skimmer - lets say a second hand deltec mce 600 £110
lights - lets assume you currently have t5s , so if you want corals- low light, you could get away with just changing the tubes, higher light, lets say another juwel unit + tubes £160, more light.............more money

then theres the water, salt, tests, refractometer, dah de dah

have a read of mine and Marks journels, he also is just converting a juwel 400

anyway, best of luck if you decide to jump on in to the salty side, it's a great place to be

if you get the new rio 400 you get 4*54 watt T5 tubes anyway, so an upgrade wont be needed, the tubes IME dont need changing for just softies.

also the new rio is 450 litres

yes, you are right the new tank is 450 litres and does have four t5 tubes

However if you want the colours to really 'pop' as someone called it lately, you will need Marine tubes for anything with any bright colour
