Ok well now my tank is cycled, i have a 48litre tank ph 7.6 and to be honest i went to the fish shop and i like everything.

Please can you give me some choices of fish to stock i want variation not just 1 shoal of the same.

I would like 1/2 snail / shrimp aswell / I would not mind a shoal if i can have a few other things around it.

Let the stock lists commence

Thanks in advance ;)

That's a fairly small tank for having much variation (about 12 US gallons, which means approximately 12 inches of fish).

You could get a bit more variation with livebearers as they aren't schooling fish.

1 m, 2 f of platies, swordtails, guppies, mollies, and/or guppies.

What about this:

You could go with 6 pygmy cories (approximately 6 inches of fish total) and 6 endler's (approximately 6 inches of fish), and mix in two red cherry shrimp.

i would prob get ..... male guppy, 5 or 6 black skirt tetra and the 3 cherry shrimp

The trouble you're going to run into is that you need tiny fish for your tiny tank and the majority of tiny fish are shoalers; they need to be, as in the wild they'd be very vulnerable to predators...

You don't have to think too much about the shrimp and snails as their bioload is so low they (almost!) don't count. Just steer clear of apple snails as they grow quite big.

How about 6 Male endlers and 6 of one of the small shoalers like ember tetras, chili rasboras or celestial pearl danios?

Or 6 sparkling gouramis plus a shoal of 6 of one of the above.

Or 3 sparkling gouramis (1 male, 2 female), 3 Endlers and your shoal of 6.

Or a shoal of rasboras or celestials (not the tetras; potentially too nippy) plus a betta.

Personally, I'd for a shoal of a dozen of one species, but I think that looks better than loads of bits and bobs of things, plus it gives you happier, more naturally behaving fish, IMO, but it's your tank!

... 5 or 6 black skirt tetra ...

Too big; they get to 2" and are a very chunky fish full grown.

Thanks folks nice replies, more replies welcome will be printing this off to take to the fish shop so get your entries in ;)

Do you mean 1 m 2 f of platies then one of each of the swordtail, guppies, mollies etc..?

How about a dozen lampeye killifish, look great in a big shoal and their eyes will look really good under your light then you can add shrimp and so on to your likeing

James9114 i did like the look of the lampeye, how many shrip/snail can i add and what types?

Could i fit any more fish around the dozen shoal of lampeye?

I thought killifish needs acidic water.

Personally never liked live bearers. Didn't like gouramis either. Probably because they were the fishes we had when I was a boy. Not sure...

...until I got some Honey gouramis yesterday. Lovely colour and lovely fishes. Great for small tank like yours and they are apparently very low maintainance as well. It is a small tank so small shoalers are better. Pygmy corys are good too as suggested above.

Remember not to get too many in one go. We all do get carried away sometimes but I'm sure you won't want to crash your tank and have to do daily water change (even though it's not that difficult with a 48L tank!

No, I meant 3 of each (but not all the types!). Probably best with only two varieties.

You could also go: 6 pygmy cories (can you tell I really like them), 2 dwarf gouramis and a male guppy, male ender, and male platy. (I wouldn't get just a male swordtail or molly - they grow bigger and can be semi-aggressive without sufficient females or other males to keep them in check.)

Bumping thread as i need as many options for tomorrow as possible, come on my fellow fish keeping friends.. what would you stock?

what about a shoal of Tiger Barbs, would look good in that tank

Tiger barbs are too large and boisterous for a tank that size.
