I recently received the Triops Delux Kit that I had ordered by mail. Before I had sent out the order, though, I had looked up a lot of information on them. I haven't done anything with the kit yet, because I read that soap is lethal to them.
I decided to use an old ten gallon tank, because the tank that is provided in the kit is much too small for any sort of living creature, (starting with a little bit of water and adding a little more each day as they grow), but I had to wash it out with soap and water before I could use it.
The sources that I have looked at have said that the soap residue can kill them, and if that's true, what alternatives do I have? Is there any way I could still use the tank? (I rinsed it extremely well after washing it, but the kit was kind of expensive to me and I don't want to end up killing the little buggers before they even have a chance).

If anyone can help me, I would truly appreciate it. Thank you so much.

sorry its taken so long for anyone to reply but! soap WILL kill your triops yes...however you can still use that tank, just fill it up with water and a high powered filter, allow it to "cycle" (its not really cycling) for a few weeks, then empty it and refill, also make sure before hand you wash it again but with plain water and a unused filter pad, this way you can get as much of as possible before hand!

ive done this and it works my friend :) good luck!

p.s: you should shop around for triop eggs there alot cheaper online :)

Only thing I would say is to hatch them in the container provided. If you hatch them in a bigger tank, they find it harder to find food, and then die. Also you get a higher hatch rate from water with a low mineral content, such as distilled water, and it would be very expensive to fill up a tank with that.

Might want to use carbon in that filter to help remove the soap.

EDIT: please note distilled is good for hatching but when used after they have hatched it may kill them due to low oxygen content.

Personally, i would try the 'suck it and see' method. Just use a few of the eggs, and see how they do.
