just got my 6 year old son a triops kit,he so pleasede because he's a dinosaur nut and these little things are labelled as pre historic.so im just wondering has anybody done this before and how succesfull were your attemts?my little lad will go ape if we fail

I brought my youngest daughter one of these sets a couple of years ago and it was a great success. We ended up with 5 triops hatching and they grow pretty big quite quickly. We still have some eggs left but sadly she lost interest.
We found them easy to care for, feeding them with the food provided and fascinating to watch. They lived for quite a few months but she was a little upset when they did finally die.
I wish you every success and am sure your little one will love it! :)

I LOVE TRIOPS, so much so that i always have a tank full of them. If you have any questions whatsoever no matter how trivial then don't hesitate to ask :) . May i add that the 'tanks' that come with these triops kits are barely adequate for one adult triops, and affect the age and lifespan of them :/ .
As a side note, the species that comes with the kit is Triops longicaudatus, which aren't technically prehistoric. On the other hand, Triops cancriformis are the oldest living animal species on the planet. They predate the dinosaurs considerably and can get to the relatively massive size of 11cm.

Could you post a picture? I have no idea what Triops are :X

Nevermind that! I just noticed th Triop's Diary in your link :D They look really cool 8)

im guna transfer them into the free nano cube i got from pfk when they hatch.i'll keep you postewd and will probably be bombarding you with useless questions :D

I don't mind, i welcome any triops related questions! :D
If your going to be transferring them over to the aquacube, a good idea would be to start acclimatising them to that kind of water(tap water i presume) as soon as they stop eating filter feeding. :) .
Btw, you should bear in mind that alot of the instructions on these kits are rubbish or made-up :) .

success, there's a load of little pinshaed size triops in my little lads hatchery.we're guna move them to a bigger tank at the weekend.do i need any filtration? :/

Nope they don't need any filteration, but they are very messy so the water will probably go really murky anyway  . When you move them over they will still be very small, so if you use a filter make sure its a very weak one, like a sponge filter.
Also, dont move them over before they stop filter feeding, because the new tank wont have enough microscopic organisms in the water.
I would start acclimatising them to whatever water you will be using in the main tank now, every day just change a cup of water in the hatching tank over with the water you would be using in the main tank :good: . Because the smaller the triops are, the more sensitive they are to changes in water conditions :) .

i hatched them in a small amount of water from my aquarium.so if i fill my small nano up with water from my tank then they should be hunky dori. agreed? :/

just an update guys.
the little buggers are growing fast, there's 7 of them.so iv filled up my pfk nano cube half way.im guna let it settle overnight and in the morning im guna transter them over to that :good:
