That's nothing. You should see saltwater harlequin shrimp.

Of course, this is a particularly colorful one.
Most look closer to this:

Wow, i thought they would be charging more... I was planning to try again with CRS but the Sulawesi are better suited to my tap water and these are cheaper than decent crs!

Hopefully they will ship ok from cornwall and they will still have some left when my tank is ready!

I think they are beautiful, but very few people seem to be able to keep them alive , mine only lasted a couple of weeks, I haven't seen any evidence of them breeding in captivity. They are very hard to ship and keep alive. Wish they were easier to keep. The cardinal shrimp seem much easier and tougher.

Apparently in the wild they have a relationship to a species of sponge.

On Sulawesi, habitat specialization and an adapted trophic morphology have been described for C. spongicola from the Malili lakes, which is exclusively found on a freshwater sponge.

My bet is that's why they're so fragile, and probably not a very good choice for captivity unless we can keep them with said sponges(which are difficult to keep alive in captivity themselves).

From what i have read these are not the same shrimp as the one with the sponge association but one that is similar in appearance to c. spongicola hence the cf. in their scientific name and are collected from a different area of the lakes that doesn't have the sponge.

which species of shrimp wont these hybridise with ?
will they be ok with cherrys or CRS

The good news is they wont hybridise with any other shrimp.

The bad news is they are very small (1cm) and sensitive and ideally need a species tank as they prefer water conditions that are very different to those CRS prefer. They need it 27C warm and a pH of at least 7.5, pref 8. not many experienced shrimp keepers are having success with these, i'm having second thoughts myself.
