Hi everybody!
I've been treating my tank for ICKand fortunatly there are no more white spots on my platy. I'll keep on with the treatment for a couple of days just to make sure it's gone.

This is the first time I deal with any disease and I have some questions:
Should I do a water change as soon as treatment is over? If so, how much?

How long before I add a new fish to the tank? I lost my female platy to bacterial infection, and I was thinking of replacing her

Thanks for any advice! :)

After an ich treatment, I do a 40% water change. I want to get the meds out of the tank. After the water change, I add a new carbon insert to the filter.

Also, if you have your temperature jacked up, you want to SLOWLY bring it down.

:D

hi freshy
if it was me then i would do 50% water change with a good vaccuum of the gravel bed. ich is really hard to get rid of and can stay in your tank permanently and attack any weak or stressed fish. i wouldnt get any more fish for 3 weeks and in the meantime do 30% water changes twice a week with gravel cleaning.

I am treating for ick as well and on my medication is says to do 50% water changes every follow up dose. So if I am treating for a week that means I change 50% of the water 4 times and treat 4 times.

Do you guys just keep adding the ick medicine without doing water changes and then only do one water change after the treatment is done?

I guess it just depends on the medication on how you should do water changes while treating?

Depends on the medication. I use interpret #6, so I dose, wait 4 days, do a 30% water change and gravel vac, dose again. Normally repeat that 2 times before ich has completely vanished, and I always dose at least once (maybe twice if I see flicking/rubbing) after all the ich has visibly vanished for a few days. Bear in mind that the more fish you have in the tank, the harder it is to kill ich.

I don't do water changes when i'm medicating my fish for ich. I wait till the treatment is over.
