I have a sailfin mollie that has had one skin disorder after another of aparantly different origins for about six weeks now.

Trying to treat him for all this stuff with meds became so confusing that I currently have him out of all meds except salt.

He has lost some scales and seems to have a small bit of fuzzy white growth in one spot, but he seems otherwise active and healthy.

Anyhow, I have him in a 10 gallon quarantine tank that I am slowly raising the salt level in, heading toward about 2 teaspoons per gallon.

Does this sound about right? One online treatment plan suggested 3 teapoons per gallon, but that sounded awfully high.

Also, my local WalMart pours aquarium salt in a bowl, and sets it directly in the mollie tank. The mollies lounge around in it like a hot-tub.

Is this ok? Would it be a way to treat his skin nasties?

i'm also treating my mollie with salt, nothing else is working. and whenever i put her in salt whatever, immediately she seems better and healthier. that's too bad i have fish that can't tolerate salt otherwise i'd add it to the main tank. 3 teaspoons per gallon doesn't sound too high. but the most i ever put in was 2 teaspoons
