What do you guys think of this stuff? Noticed a couple of my fish had one or 2 white grain size dots. I took out the carbon/floss out of my filter. Now all I have is the water flow and a bio-wheel. Put the recommended amount of medication last night and again this morning. I heard I should continue for 14 days to really be sure the stuff is killed.

Hi FishBazzar. :)

The bio-wheel is enough to keep the nitrifying bacteria going, but this is another reason to use filter floss instead of carbon. (Sorry, I have to do this every couple weeks with this idea as I do with the fishless cycling) :)

What fish and what temp do you have right now?

As a general rule, I would move the temp up to 82F.

I'd rather do a lower temp with less stress on the fish and med longer as I feel they have a better chance.

I had trouble with ich a few years ago when I started keeping fish. Aquarisol was the only thing that worked. If I recall correctly, I followed the dosing instructions on the bottle. I definitely didn't raise the temp any higher than 82.

Thanks for the replies guys. I totally agree with smb on the fishless cycle and no carbon. :D The problem is I have a eclipse system which makes me use the floss and carbon combo  I just don't change the cartridge very much so the carbon is very rarely working, which works just fine for me. I hope your right AquaNut :D Hopefully in a week or so this ich will be gone. I have my fry in the same tank, except they are in a plastic container. One of the baby fry has a little ich now too!
Hopefully things will straighten out soon :p

P.S. By the way, my baby fish are growing really big! So cool to raise them up.

Hi fishbazzar! I'm new to the board and new to the hobby also. Had my tanks for about 3 months now. Just had to post on this subject since I'm also going through the same exact thing right now! Anyways, I tried a different name brand stuff that was blue and had terrible luck!!! Lost alot of my little fish(neons, cherry barbs). Used it as a half dose cuz, tetras can't take the full dose. Well, after 6 half doses of this horrid blue stuff, I had platies thick with spots(more than they started with!) and lost all my neons and cherry barbs!!! So to make a long story short, I did a big water change and switched to Aquarisol. After day five of Aquirsol, my poor platies spots were finally almost completely gone with NO ill side affects like the other stuff. The LFs said Aquarisol is not as potent as the blue treatments you can buy, but I would rather treat for longer than kill all my babies off with the treatment!! :-( I couldn't believe that this supposed mild stuff cleared the spots off with no side affects. (so far) After I put those other poor fish through living hell! :X
Hopefully I won't have to go through this again, but if I do I will use Aquarisol. Just wanted to share my experience with this product! Congrats on your babies!! Good luck with them! ~Nancy~

Nancy - the horrible blue stuff was probably methylene blue, which doesn't directly kill fish (I've used it with great success) but can kill your beneficial bacteria in your filter and gravel. This in turn leads to a build up of ammonia and nitrite in your tank and so your fish die. (if you don't follow the logic of that, please follow the link on New Tank Syndrome in my sig).

Since ich is a sign of fish stress, and the most common reason for fish stress in newbies is that their tank isn't properly cycled, methylene blue is probably a bad medication to recommend.

Hi Alien Anna, I just wanted to give my opinion on Aquarisol. I know by any means I am no expert. My tank was fully cycled when I used the Jungle ich cure (aka blue stuff). It wasn't until the 6th 1/2 dose treatment that my fish died. Literally as the blue was dissolving! Sure wish I would have used Aquarisol from the get go. Think I would have had alot more fish survive!!! I also know that the ich cures can kill of the good bacteria. I have done some research. Also have a really nice guy who owns our local fish store who will help with anything. HE would even come to your house if you wanted him to. So I'm not totally unlogical. Sorry if I took your wrong, but you sounded kinda, well, not very friendly. Sorry if I took you the wrong way. :/ ~Nancy~

Ich could have also came in on one of the new fish I bought, seeing as tho they were the first to show the spots. :fun:

Nancy, I have Asperger's Syndrome which affects my social communication so I don't really know what "friendly" looks like. I just say what I think and hope it helps. However, I can assure you I am friendly - or at least my friends tell me so.

Sorry Anna, My husband tells me often I'm too sensitive. :*) Gotta watch that I guess. No hard feelings right? :p ~Nancy~

No problem and on re-reading what I'd typed, I could see how someone could take it the wrong way. What I was trying to express was a concern that you couldn't follow my argument, not because you were stupid, but because sometimes my stuff comes out rather muddly and nonsensical. (Recently an editor said to me "Yeah, that's fine. Now could you write it in English?"). I was typing in a hurry you see, with my hubby yelling at me to get off the computer so we could visit his mothers. I really shouldn't try to communicate when I've got 10 other things to think about.

Hi Anna! Glad there are no hard feelings. Sorry again that I jumped the gun!! Sounds like you have a busy life. :D See you on the board! ;) ~Nancy~
