One of my corys has swimbladder because he is swimming upside down and falling over.

I have bought swimbladder treatment that suggests i use with salt for best results. I have read that salt is bad to catfish though such as my ancistrus and corys. What should i do ? Just use the treatment and no salt ?

My water parameters are :

Ammonia - 0
NitrIte - 0
NitrAte - 20ppm

PH - 8.2
Water - Very hard
Temp - 26 C/ 78 F

Thanks guys

swim bladder diseases are usually cuased by an internal bacteria infection (that's why you get the bloatedness and the weird siwmming thing), i'm not sure if salt will help your fish at all, but it would probably hlep protect him from other diseases that may develop while his immune system is down (like ich) -_-

but yeah, bottom feeders are senstiive to salt, you shouldn't go the full dose on them. but ironically i just did that for my otos and theyr'e okay

i use aquilibrium by interpet ans an addition to swim bladder medication
It is v good stuff. :D

Just a niggle guys,
fish dont get swimbladder!
they have a swimbladder that helps them regulate equilbrium and balance whilst swimming. therefore they get an infection OF the swimbladder. i believe that a majority of fish if not all fish have swimbladders or atleast basic swimbladders.
p.s yes the salt is not good for corys or lociridae catfish (suckermouth catfish) so use half the stated dose rate on your aquarium tonic salt. normallly about 1 tea/tablespoon (cant remember  ) of salt per 10 gallons.
p.p.s ottos arent catfish they are algae eating fish with a similar but not as well adapted suckermouth to attach to stuff, hence they will not be affected as badly as proper catfish

hmm that explains why they're okay after i went fulldose of salt on them :D thanks
