ok my cardinals and neons have gotten themselves quite a case of ick. I'm not sure what to do though should I just net them place them in my 5G and treat them in there or do I have to treat my whole 46G tank. Also wil the ICK medicine wipe out my bacteria bed?

And additionally since I have 2 yo-yo loaches do I need to dose only half the medication?
Thanks

I'm not sure about the loaches.

However, if you remove the carbon form the filter there should be no problems. I'd suggest treating the entire tank, just in case, but it would be a wise idea to quarantine just in case the ich hasn't spread yet.

well decided to treat the whole tank. But only used half dose since I have cory's and loaches. temp is about 83 and the powerheads are on full aeration so hopefully the fish will make it through. Otherwise I just did the whole fishless cycle for nothing.

even if only your neons and cardinals show white spots the whole tank could be infected the white spots on the fish is only one stage of the disease. you still could have millions of Tomonts & Theronts swimming around in there looking for a "host fish" i would treat the whole tank like your doing.

The directions in that article don't match the suggestions made by the medication. Also what that article is telling me to do is to kill my entire biological base by boiling/hot hot water on all surfaces and throw away all the filter floss. which would involve the bio media in the filter. I'm not sure I agree with that. If the ich doesn't kill the fish the subsequent ammonia spike sure will!

i dont agree with the treatment on that article the main reason i posted it was to show you the cycle of the ich, just letting you know it can still be in your tank with no symptoms on your fish

id just do 25% water changes everyday and treat with the medication, but you know some companys want you to overuse their product so youll buy more.

Don't do a change everyday if your adding meds, I'd do one before you add meds, and after treatment is done.
