Treating fish for "ich"

Hi.I think my fish have the symptoms of "ich" and i have been recommended to use "pure tree oil" before i use a commercialy available treatment(a very good natural remedy so ive been told by an expert in this forum).
My nitrite and nitrate levels have been high,so im doing daily 30% water changes for the past 4 days (levels are gradually coming down)
My question is......should i remove the "carbon filters" from my Juwel tank before using any treatment,as i think ive seen somewhere on here that they will "soak up" the impurities in the water,including the treatments?

The carbon will remove the meds. I would take them out.

cometcattle is right the carbon will remove the impurites in the water including the medicine.
