Hi guys and girls 🙂

Ill be transporting my Ellioti babies to my Lfs (around 15 mins away)within the next week and was wondering what you all think would be the best way to go about it.

Got around 40 cichlids to take in all so putting them in bags might not be the best option??

Would buckets or a plastic storage container be better? (Would i need a battery air pump?)

When I had to give up fish due to my cancer last year I used the plastic food storage tubs/boxes with a lid. You don't want them too big or they are heavy to carry. Fill just over half, add floating plants (thick) and the lid is mandatory or water and fishies will be all over the car. Mine were 14-15 liter containers.

Thank you Byron

Thats just what ill do🙂

I use a 1/3 filled 5 gallon bucket, with a lid. Don't feed them for 24 hours to clear their guts out, and take them over. 15 minutes is nothing. This time last year I had just moved hundreds of fish 10 hours, with hardly any losses.

Thank you, im pretty glad my lfs is not that far away. 10 hours is a good way to move fish😲 Bet that was stressful

Actually 15mins is a very short ride.
Whenever I buy fish from the fish stores, it will take me more than 15mins ride to my house.

Container is a good option if you are travelling long distance.
But for short distance, you can actually use big plastic bags.
If I were you, I will just buy 2 big plastic bags(big enough to carry 50 small fish) from the fish stores.
Fill up each plastic bag with 1/3 of water and 2/3 of air.
Air is more important than water for short duration.
You can fast them for 1-2 days as Gary mentioned before packing them.

Note: Take note of the weight if you are using container. 1 liter is about 1kg. You don't want it to be too heavy.

One additional note:
The big plastic bags are cheap.
At my place they cost only about 20cents each in our currency which is about 15cents(in US dollar).
