Hello,

Is there information on this site about how to transfer a filter to a new aquarium that I could read?

I have a well-established 48-gallon aquarium with a Fluval 305. I am thinking of setting up a 55-gallon aquarium that I purchased at a yard sale with a Flubal 405 that I purchased on eBay. I am planning on running the 405 in the 48 gallon and then moving it to the 55 gallon. I'd like to read up on how this is done; how long should it run in the old aquarium, what to do when it is in the new aquarium, etc. I'm thinking of moving a few fish over to the 55, but mostly putting new fish in it.

Thanks,
Mark

Move 1/3 of the media from the old filter to the new filter, then you can move the new filter to the new tank at any point, along with up to 1/3 of the fish from the old tank. Stock slowly of course, and it's probably a good idea to wait 1-2 weeks after moving new filter and old fish to the new tank and buying new fish. I recommend adding more more than 1-3 2" fish per week to the new tank.
