Transfering Tanks

I have recently purchased a trigon 190 tank as an upgrade from a standard 2ft x 1ft tank.

After the initial set up period for the new tank is it safe to transfer my current stock to the new tank and is there any hidden surprises I should be looking for??

if i was transfering fish to a new tank id transfer the water and old filter medium as well,just to aid the new tank with its new occupants,the bacterias will already be established in the old tank so you might as well use them
