OK so im going to be switching to sodium thiosulphate as my dechlorinator soon and i know that my current water dechlorinator contains some trace elements it is tetra water dechlorinator and it states on the bottle that it adds magnesium iodine and others what are the others what do they do and in what form can i add them to the aquarium and are they necessary

Can you find and post a link to detail info online about the specific product you are using?  I hunted around Tetra but either they tell nothing or there are several products possible.

Water conditioners often add various substances, some of which may be useful, some of which are anything but useful and nay be risky.  Aloe vera, valerian, chemicals to add slime coat, etc are in the latter.  But minerals such as magnesium might be beneficial, depending upon your other additives, plants, tap water, etc.  Knowing exactly what is in this product will help us advise.

Byron.
