I screwed up big time. I cleaned the inside of the hood (where the light shines through) with a windex cleaner. I thought I had rinsed it well, but now I know I didn't. The fish are dying daily. I've lost 3 tetras, 1 rainbow, 1 platy, 1 cory, 1 otto, all within the past week and a half. I've changed the water (75%) 2x, but can still smell the chemical smell and I'm afraid the rest of my fish are going to die. What is my next step in trying to correct the fiasco I'm putting my poor fish through? I'm sure the water changes are not going to do too much, because some of the chem's must be in my filter/sponge.
Right now the fish do not look stressed, but I'm sure they are.
It's approx. a 40 gallon, and has been running for a little over a year. I'm left with 1 otto, 1 platy, 1 tetra, 2 rainbows, and 6 corys.
Tank is 76 degrees, no ammon/nitrite. I have not tested for nitrates.
Please help.
