Tortoises? Advice

I've always wanted one and I am going to get one this year hopefully in the spring.

has anyone kept one before who can offer any advice.

I've been reading about the species and it would seem Hermanns would be the one to go for.

Advice seems to be not to use a vivarium but to use a table instead

what do any of you guys use to keep yours?
