hi all
my boyfriend and i are looking to buy a hermanns tortoise for his mum's 50th b'day.

we are having great difficulty trying to find one for sale or rehoming in the south west (would rather buy from a private breeder, than the garden centre's etc). does anyone know of any for sale or that need rehoming in the devon/cornwall area of the uk? it will go to a very good and loving home!

also anyone know of a tortoise box or vivarium for sale in the same area?

and finally, what is the most informative book on the subject of keeping tortoises as pets?

Take a look at this site http/www.iwantatortoise.info/default.htm it was advertised in the pet section of our free ads paper. They also sell books and vivariums. Hope this helps

I'm sure you know what you are doing, but be very careful about buying pets for other people. Unless they have expressed explicit interest in having such a pet of course. But even so, I'd discuss it beforehand and not do it as a surprise.

Keep in mind that these chaps also get pretty old and with some good care will most likely outlive his mom !

Try the Hermann tortoise forum - they have a buy/sell section - though you do have to register to view that section.
