Hey guys,
sorry to bother you again with one of my ridiculous questions but I was just wondering if my baby hermanns would live with a baby beardie. the size of terrarium is not a problem as i can try and get one as big as needed but please get back to me on this if you know anything on the subject. see i'm dying for a little baby beardie but I don't think mum wants too many terrariums in the house! thanks

NO!!!!

the tortoise will scare them to death and probably bite their tails/legs off thinking its food!!! And they require slightly different setups in terms of Temps and care

ahaha i understand what you mean, but this tortoise is about 6cm long! i would use big bits of wood so the beardie can climb and i was kinda hoping the little tort would just wonder around the bottom? I also read that they can both live on a sand surface. I'm not sure. it was just a thought :/

They used to keep them together at Edinburgh Zoo, but that was a very large enclosure with lots of climbing and basking spots.

I heard someone else who tried it, and yep, the beardie got bitten.

My three beardies all live on sand with an are of rought tiles where their food bowls are. They can only really live on sand when they are around 6months old as they tend to eat it when they are younger and suffer with blockages in the bowel.

I would really recommend you dont go with the idea of them living together it would not be fair on the beardie How about a tortoise table for the tortoise ( i also have one of those ....its a zoo here!) and a vivarium 3ft in length min for the beardiem then technically you only have one vivarium :hyper:

but seriously i'm not sure this tort could fit a leg in his mouth. I am planning on having a very large viv with basking areas and objects to climb on. I'm dying for a little beardie :( !

But he would be able to when it's older, as said above the requirements are different and basically just unfair to 1 or both to house them together.

sand shoudlnt really be used full stop with beardies, casues compactation(sp) at any age not just as juvi's, ive always kept mine when i had them on slate tiles... easy to clean over and not at all ingestable :)

Seriously if you want a beardie get a beardie setup and keep the tortoise in its own environment.

Never had an issue with mine and the sand as adults, babys i keep on all rough tile base to avoid compaction issues.

Shouldn't really keep hermans on sand either, they much prefer a wild garden (grass and wild plants) so they can graze, find shade, and sunbathe as they want.

You should never mix any species of reptile really. They need different set ups and if one gets sick it could easily pass it on to your other animals and kill them all off.
