Hi, I have a Topaz Puffer and the underside of his body changes colour as he moves around the tank. It can go from completely white to completely black. I am absolutely sure he is not suffering from any kind of stress and wondered whether it was a camouflage thing.

I'd check the water stats first, (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate) but essentially topaz puffers (Tetraodon fluviatilis) can change the colour of their stomachs as they please to blend in.

Are you aware of the long term requirements of these fish? High brackish/marine eventually etc?

Hi, all stats are good. I would tend to agree with you that he could be changing colour as he pleases.

I have become aware of the requirements for Puffy but it is a shame the shop didn't inform us when we bought him. :)

I just saw in your other thread (please, don't do 2 threads, makes it so hard to collate information and people end up just repeating what other people say) and I don't fancy the chances of your other fish as the T. fluviatilis grows.

I am sorry about the two threads but I am new to forums but realise now what to do. I will keep an eye on the other fish until the time he is moved from the tank.
