My 100W heater died. Taking it apart revealed a short due to water on the coil. It looks like an easy fix. My question is ...does anybody know what the wire size and resistance is for this unit. I would like to use stainless for a replacement but believe the resistance for stainless is different enough to warrant these questions. And so......

I wouldn't advise fixing it. I had a similar problem once and thourght I could fix it so I did and the next day I discovered the filter melted in half.

Since its a topfin heater which is supplied by petsmart it has a lifetime warrenty so just throw it in a bag and bring it back to petsmart for a new one ;)

Thanks to all who responded. I was able to solder the parts back together but the thermostat wasn't reliable. Special thanks to Shizat. Let's see if the store will honor the guarantee.
