Least Killifish(Heterandria Formosa); One of the world's smallest fish, and an extravagant part of my collection.

Heterandria formosa is one of the most under appreciated fish around . I’ve always wanted them and maybe it’s time for me to do something about that . I sure didn’t know there were even smaller live bearers than them . That blows me away . Now . . . why are they called a killifish ? Is that the proper classification or did a wrong name stick ? What’s the lowest temperature they can stand ?

Do you have access to eBay where you live? If so, you should search them before it gets too cold.

I don't know why they have that name, personally. I think the namer used the word "killifish" because of where you find them, rather than their relation to true killifish.

As for temperature, they can get down into the 60s. Possibly lower, but they're from Florida, so I wouldn't gamble that far.

Jonah’s Aquarium sells them . How do they seem to like it in your two gallon ? Have they dropped any fry for you yet ?
No babies yet, as I've been(besides the one they came with). If you get them yourself, you should know they give live birth to fry across days one at a time rather than the whole batch all at once.

Yes , I have heard that and in that may be why they are referred to as a killifish which lay eggs a few each day . Maybe @fish48 knows why .

common names for Heterandria Formosa Least killifish , dwarf topminnow, And often called mosquitofish.
Females usually produce one or two fry every other day Over a period of 10 to 15 days Depending on conditions They have a wide temperature range They do well when kept at 68 -72.f

You sure about that? Don't see anything on the other four.(I'm not being sarcastic, I'm genuinely curious.)
heterandra fomosa males 20mm females 35mm,
poeciliopsis prolifica, males 20mm female 30mm,
phallotorynus jucundus ---- 20mm ----- 25mm,
neoheterandria elegans 18mm 20mm,
poecilia minor 17mm 20mm;

Very similar to H. Formosa are neoheterandria elegans Not so easy to keep , New born fry so tiny they look Almost like splints of glass.
