Hi People,

Well, the time has come. my community tank is up and running, and the fish seem really happy. No stress in that tank.

I took some photos with a work mates digicam. Couldnt get the damn bristle noses tho.

Anyway, here is the tank

Balantiocheilos melanopterus (Bleeker, 1851)
Family: Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps)
Order: Cypriniformes (carps)
Class: Actinopterygii (ray-finned fishes)
Common name(s): Bala shark/sliver shark
Max. size: 35.0 cm That is 13.5"
Environment: benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 6.0 - 8.0; dH range: 5.0 - 12.0
Climate: tropical; 22 - 28°C

The angel fish will grow big as well and need
at least 50gallons and 2ft of depth

Sorry Blob but that tank is too small for those fish

I have to disagree danio. Angels can live quite comfortable in 18" of depth. Most tanks (even bigger ones) are 18" deep, IME it's unusual to find a 24" deep tank that is not absolutley huge and one that most people can neither afford nor house. My 5ft/320l and 4ft/160l are 18" deep and only my cube is 24". I do not know what size the tank is but as long as it's at least 36" x 12" x 18" then I think that will be fine.

I do agree with you about the balas though. They are big fish, BlobOn, perhaps the ones you have seen werenot full size or even worse stunted. :(

I don't see the problem in him keeping the balas as they are small. Everybody makes such a big deal about keeping balas in medium sized tanks when the fish is only really about 2-3 inches. As long as the keeper is aware that they're going to have to give them away when they grow out of the tank, it's okay.

But what is the point of buying a fish and then getting ride of it when it is too big?
And why are the angels gills red?

Nice tank tho, good pics :)

Well I admit I'm no expert on angels so you may very well be correct.
I'll defer to your experiance.
