So I finally got around to adding water to my tank and went to put in some aquasafe to dechlorinate. The directions say add 5mL for every 10 gallons. I started adding some in but was having trouble reading how much I had put in off of the container. Then I realized the the brand new bottle was almost empty. It turns out that I added about 70mL, more than 4 times the required amount for my 30 gallon tank. :/

Is too much aquasfe detrimental to the fish? ????

im afraid i dont know if too much is bad but i just wanted to say i use a medicine spoon - unused - to measure mine as i cant judge the bottle either!

xXx

Yea, I've never read anything about this either. I also found out that a teaspoon is 5mL, so I'm just going to use that in the future. Though I'll probably have to find a plastic one right?

take 50% of the water out and add fresh water with no delorinate. then there is no doubts about it.

It is very difficult to OD this stuff as up to 20x the recommended dose is 'safe'.

Also, it works al,most instantly, hence I pour my (tap) water in my tank and then put the dechlor directly into my tank.

Finally, I use pond dechlor - far, far cheaper.....

lol that reminded me of when i went to my lfs the other day. they had aquasafe pond and regular aquasafe, so i said hey the pond would be cheaper. the 500ml bottle was $16 for the pond. the 250ml bottle of regular was $7. ?????? thats only $14 for 500ml. so thats not alwase true.

Thanks for the replies.
I'm gonna do a 50% water change and then just put straight tap in. Sound good?

Sounds good to me, but I'd just leave it.

Up to you of course!

Andy

lol, alright. Thanks for the links. The chart in the first one is useful.

I read today that AquaSafe can overdose a tank and stress the fish. I use AquaSafe too and have never had the problem, but I would do the 50% water change as well!

I usually end up adding a few extra drops because they'll come out too fast and I can't count them. Doesn't seem to bother Rufus.

I ended up doing about a 40% change. Hopefully everything is better now.
