Is it possible to overplant a tank?

Would having too many plants have a detrimental effect on both fish and water parameters?

Hi Thomas,

I can't see any problem with too many plants other than the amount of light getting to them. I have a quite densely planted tank and if I don't prune back regularly I start to get problems with algae at the lower levels as the light is not getting through.

Plants eat the nitrate that we remove through water changes whch helps, but at the same time most fish need open spaces to swim in so you do need to balance things out...

Cheers, Eddie
