i was wondering (think my tank is likely overstocked) i have a 3 foot tank hold bout 25 gallons
in it i have 2 yellow electrics, 1 blue acara, 2 red devils, another fish simular shaped to a silver dollar but has a black strip and i longer as it goes down, upside down catfish, 2 algae eaters
so is my tank over stocked or could i possibly add more fish to it since theres only 9 fishies in there and if i could put more fish there what would complement my tank i would like a little skool of something thanks
Well you have some potentially agressive and 2 very agressive fish in the same tank. Odds are once the red devils get big enough, the rest of the tank is in trouble These also grow to 12" so going by the 1 inch per gallon you'd be maxed. Plus being said that these are very agressive, they will probably pick at each other to death. I don't know what everyone else will say, but this setup will only work for a little while. If you like schoolers, go tropical instead of african and go with some tetras, barbs etc.. Many more stocking options if you give up the cichlids.. BTW, ppl recommend a 90 gallon for the red devils.. and that's just one. a clipping from another site on the red devils. "if kept in smaller tanks they are very aggressive and no fish will be able to survive the beating these fish can dish out. They will eat live meals and also fish pellets. They can get up to 40 cm long! " So yeah, you're way overstocked now and you're mixing South American cichlids with africans.. Both require different water parameters and either or are not likely to survive.. You should really do some research and re-stock that tank.. The silver lining is now you have a good excuse to get a bigger tank!
Whoa. You have HUGE problems awaiting you. The only fish that will fit in that tank in the near future are your L. caeruleus (electric yellow) and your upside down cat. And even those 2 kinds shouldn't be together.
The red devils get a foot long, the blue acara to 8" and not sure about your other fish that looks like a silver dollar but I hope it's not a red belly piranha or a tinfoil barb.
The pleco will soon be too large for that tank also.
You need to take all but the electric yellow back asap, imo.
Edit:Good advice bgraber. You weren't there when I started my post.
sorry guys i got one typo, 2 arent red devils, they are red zebras so i was told heres what the look like im proberly still wrong i dont wanna get rid of my fish but if it will save them i will
