Hey Guys,

Still Getting alot of trouble from the Neighbourhood Tomcats.

They Hang around the house and end up fighting in the Front and Back Garden and Defecating on the Front Door.

Ginger Does not go Out anymore because of them, and As Soon AS Mum Opens the Door to her Room She Runs inside. At Bed time She Runs to her door and Waits for us to Open it and she goes right up the ladder into her Den.

She is becoming Reclusive.

Someone @ Work Says to Lay Lemon and Orange peel around the Front door and Entrances into our Garden.

Mum has put a Large Mirror in the Veranda to Scare them away. It works on one
of the cats but not the others.

Does anyone have anymore ideas we could Try.

well, sometimes those fake owl things, if you position it lower, and move it periodically, can deter them. you can also sometimes buy scent deterrents that you put around your property, though i'm not sure how your own cat might react to that.

i'd suggest the trick for deterring deer, but not sure how that works for cats ("marking" your own territory so to speak....)

Are these cats that belong to neighbors or are they a group of strays? If they are strays, you may want to see if there is a catch/spay/neuter/release program in your area. By being fixed, they won't display the terriorital behaviors as much.

:dunno:

One thing I've noticed is, cats seem to hate the smell of mint, and especially peppermint. Rubbing Rue leaves on the border of your yard (like on fences, tree trunks) is supposed to work well, and I read somewhere that if you can get a hold of tiger urine.... well, no more kitties.... lol. I don't know if a hunting equipment shop might have some larger cat urine sprays, like bobcat, they might, depending on where you live, so it would be worth a shot.

Buy a dog! Just kidding!

You could try borrowing a dog off a friend of family member? Then perhaps the dog will give them such a scare they won't wanna come back? Don't know whether this woruld work, but it could be worth a try.

Theres a plant called scaredy-cat that you could put in pots and move around the garden which i have heard is effective. Then theres lion manure which is supposed to keep them away but where you buy it i dont know lol.

Well, I was going to say cat replelling plants, but then I thought of your cat, and din't want it to affect him.

Don't let your cat out if there are strays around. Its a good way for her to get diseases, get injured in a fight, or if she's not spayed, get knocked up. It is entirely possible that the smell of a female cat has attracted the toms, even.

As for cat repellants, as everyone said, how do you know if it won't affect your own cat? Perhaps if you could put it just outside of your garden, thus keeping them out and your cat in.
You could also, as someone mentioned, call a TNR program, or if its getting really bad, animal control. Though they would undoubtedly be euthanized with animal control if they're at all feral.

Thanks for the Ideas.

Mmmmm....

Can't Use Repellents

They are Both New Cats from New Neighbours in the Block.

Ginger was Fixed Before we Got her by the RSPCA.

We do think its Gingers Scent that is attracting them.

Poor thing - Shes Over the Hill - so to speak and she still has these Young Cats Chasing and Fighting over her, @ her Age (27)  :* :* :* :*)

We are Def Going to try the lemon and orange peel around the perimeter of the garden, as Ginger only Ventures into our garden and Grans.

OMG

We are Gonna Lay th Lemons and oranges Today.

This morning During the Weekly Water change I was Washing Sand (Outside Photographic Sink(DAD's) for the Paradise Fish Tank - I Thought it was Ginger brushing against my Leg.

Low and behold it was Another Different TOM Cat. I Did My Usual Gutterall Hissing and then Ginger Peeks out of the Veranda to see what the fuss was about.
