My plakat gives plakats a bad name :p

I came home about 8 pm and found my VT and plakat together. My mom said they were together this morning before she went to work. :S

Not one fin nipped! I have girly man bettas.

Some pictures. All they wanted was food. They didn't even care about eachother. Sorry about the streaks, I need to take a razor blade to the buildup.

Look at the size difference

No fin damage :kana:

Whew, I was lucky! :)

its not uncommon i have three females and a half moon male and a male plakat in one tank and they don't fight or try to spawn mind you he did become the father of three spawning in December so maybe he is just very tired....... but seriously they live together quit happy including at feeding time i think its because he has always been with other male he was kept with his brothers who secome to a heater failure last year and he was the only one i managed to save, but it is not something i would recommend or endorse to anyone else as it depend on the fish and i have to watch them for any fin damage and its all over .....

well mine dont as he has fathered three spawns last month ...... :D

even though that is a good way of judging for a female, some males have "oviposter" like things, such as my MG male. especially when they are fat. plakats are hard to sex, you mostly go by aggression.

haha do u keep them in constant view of each other while their apart? if so iv heard they can just get bored with each other and not be aggressive, still shouldn't keep um together. nice pic, very cool

does that plakat "male" by any chance have a white dot on the bottom of his stomach?
I am sure Auratus knows the difference between a male and female betta...

I have 3 newly aquired females I suspect of being Plakats. They do have white dots behind theor belly. They are terribly agressive. Relying on the "white spot" migth have cost me one of my females ("Ginger"). I hope she makes it, but she is in a pretty bad way.

I'm looking for the thread where I asked if he was a male or female. I have pictures in the thread that show no ovipositor. I'll edit the link in when I find it.

Yes, they are next to eachother in a split 3 gallon. I of course put the plakat back to his side right after I was done taking pictures

Edit:
Some of the pictures are broken links now

You are SOOOOOOO lucky! My guys flare at anything that comes close to their bowl/tank and try to go through the glass to attack. But Buttons bites the hands that feed him. Fonzie and Peekaboo (thanx, Wuv!) are more calm and civilized. :)

How did those two get into the same tank/area?

Lucky Aur! Congrats on that luck - bottle it up and sell it on Aquabid as "Canned Betta Luck". Jumping ship is one of the unfortunate things I've run into with divided tanks. Spread of disease is the other.

BTW, those fish look niiiiiiiice. Send some plakats up this way, Southern PA ppl are uncultured.
