to flare a betta.

i want my betta to flare so i can get a really good pic of him - cos i'm envious of everyone's betta pics and i'd love to have one of my own but i can't seem to get mines to open up what can i do to get him to flare... even for just a quick second?

put a mirror next to him, and wait for him to realize it's there.

thats just my GUESS because i've never actually tried to take a flare pic.....good luck though!

Or you can try something like this. Two bettas next to eachother in seperate tanks of course. I have to seperate them far apart because they flare so much.

what if he only has 1 betta . i think the mirror idea is the best one.....

altho it's true i only have one betta at the moment so the mirror thing works fine. i do plan to get him a mate someday so that side-by-side thing will be an added option for me later on i also try staring at him or playing with him but it never works - he just swims away. he must think i'm insane uhm how do i flare? hee thanks everyone for the advice!

i say... stay up late one night... mine decides to flare if im up to late cuz it keeps him up lol he likes to rest at night and if he dosent get his rest on the suction cup of the heater hes a pissy little guy... o well... and i say also... stick your tongue out mine hates it hehehehhehehehe

I usually find that any strange object will set mine off. A pen held up to the glass, or my cordless phone. He never flares when I put my face or finger up, but he hates most everything else!

OMG! is that why?? i was up late last night just reading a book minding my own business and i noticed my betta just kept flaring for no apparent reason! never crossed my mind. i thought he wanted to play i was like ok - when i want him to flare he doesn't but when i don't expect it he does now it makes sense.

as for objects - he doesn't like 'em much. i guess his amusement standards are pretty high i've tried little dolls and things colorful and even placing him in front of my aquarium... nothing. he's already a brat haha!
