I believe I am at the point to cull a few children :-( This is going to be hard to do. But wanted to run a few things by ya.
I have about 20 and I estimate I need to cull around 8 or so.
Ithey are 6 weeks old. I have about 4 that look like they stopped groing after week 2. I have done bi weekly water changes and fed either 2 or 3 times a day depending on the time I had. They were fed BBS (decapped) MW and decapped BBS eggs. Now the big ones are eating flakes (betta min flakes crushed along with decapped eggs and crushed bio gold) and doing fine. I have about another 2 to 4 that are belly sliders, they just hang on the bottom. I am wondering if I should cull the real small fellas and the belly sliders? I dont think they will ever be anything unfortuantley. But on the good news the other 10 are getting color getting air and starting to color and get CT points :D ANy helpful info is appreciatted.

I don't see any purpose in culling a fish because it is smaller. If it has health problems and cannot live happily, then I could see a reason to cull.

It is like culling because the fish isn't the right color -- kind of pointless, in my opinion. If the ones on the bottom don't start to perk up or stop eating or can't breathe, then I could just justify culling them.

That's simply up to you. Don't let anybody sway you.

The bellysliders will fully develop but they'll always have swim bladder problems. I have a few oranges that were sliders and they've grown beautifully...they just lay around alot (unless it's feeding time! )

If you jar your tiniest, they'll grow faster. I had a teeny tiny orange,he never grew. Looked to be about 2 weeks. After jarring at 2 months,he hit a spurt and now he's one of my favorites, although considerably smaller than the others.

I recently jarred an itty bitty delta. He was bite size, the tiniest of all, now he's larger than the other small ones in the tank.

So...I have no helpful info :/ I guess if you're going to do it,do it while they're young.

dont cull the, send them to me, lol.
I dont think its right to cull them because of size either. There are runts of all animals, andd those must be the tiny two.

I am not culling because they arent the right color or because I dont like them small. I am culling to keep them from becoming problem fish later on. I am not doing it on a whim. But I dont want them to become problem fish later as they get older. Thanks

Some just stay small. I have one thats the size of the 8 week fry, and Ive had her for three months, so I know shes older, but she doesnt grown. Shes a CT as well. Maybe there is just something with crowntails. Maybe theyre just tiny girls.

I have 2 female CTs that are huge :flex: so I doubt all CT females are like that. I think you have a runt, like some of these are. What do you guys do with your smaller fish that come from your spawns?

No, I have some enormous 8 week old girls.

Various sizes happen in most every spawn. As you start pulling the largest, the smaller will grow. So at 6 weeks that would be my suggestion...start pulling them. Or start doing daily 75% water changes.

there might be something to that hormone theory -_-

mines not from a spawn, i bought it like that. it was with its sisters, and three were small, and the others were big.

If your NOT going to cull them and they grow out and are still small, then i'll be willing to take one or two, i'll play shipping and the lot. Perhaps a male and female.

Small bettas are so cute! :D

id take one of the little ones... i swear runts are cute and some time with enough luve they grow bigger then the rest heheheh... like my kitty hes 18 was the runt and had to grow into his paws... hes now the largest from the litter

ok I will hold on to them longer , and will do like wuvs adopt a cull thread, but unlike wuv, I wont pay for shipping ;) if Wuv wants to start a adopt a cull thread for all people that want to submit them. The fish are free and will only charge shipping. I will let them grow a little longer
