Tire Track Eel

I... just... answered for you....

porbably a 4 foot long by 2 foot wide tank. I'd say 6x2x2

I would say that 200g would be much better for a tire track eel, if not abit more, and that a 180 would be good for a fire eel. I think that the fact that they get to just under 40inches shouldnt be ignored, and many fire eels only get to 22" at best, so that would be a much better, and more colourful option IMO. If you have a much smaller tank, why not get a peacock spiny???

Thanks everyone! I think I will get a peacock eel instead. I just cant believe petco is even selling tire track eels when probably only like some of the people who buy them have a big tank! :)

Peacocks need a decent tank too though, 30g minimum....

Good luck, and show us some pics :D

Fire eels get a good bit larger than 22", captive specimins of 30" are not unheard of (i myself have one at 25-27") and in the wild they can reach 3 feet.

With tyre tracks it really depends on the exact species, there are at least two spiney eel species in the trade sold as tyre tracks, one species doesnt seem to get much larger than 2 feet whilst the true tyre track M.armatus does indeed reach up to (and possibly over) 40"

Oh right, i never knew that fires got quite that large!!!

I think that it is quite common for people to think that fire eels only get to 2' and tyre tracks to 3'.

I completely agree with what CFC is saying, and I think that the 2' version of the tyre track is by far the most common, however it is better to be safe. I think that the tyre tracks and fire eels simply just get mixed round?
