Hello. I'm 12 and I would really like to take up the hobby of keeping a tropical aquarium. Do you have any tips on what to do before buying the aquarium? I have already read sites, forums and have watched the Tetra tutorial on YouTube many times.

have you read up about cycling the tank?.

and before buying... get as big a tank as you can for the space/money you have :good: (easier to keep in balance)

welcome to the hobby :good:

what fish are you planning to stock?

its good to see younger people in the hobby :good: (im only 18 myself)

have a look here

Yes i've read about cycling the tank. I just want to check I haven't forgotten any major things

Good advice about getting as big a tank as you can afford. It's so much easier to maintain a bigger tank than a small one.

But, don't tell your friends that. :hey: Let them marvel at your skills with a HUGE tank and be "big man on campus" for as long as you can.

Other than that, the only piece of advice I can give you is to remain patient during the whole process. There is a LOT to learn. Take your time, and do your homework. :good:

How lovely to see such a young person doing their research and making sure they understand as much as they can before rushing into buying and fish suffering because of ignorance. Well done you! :good:
