About a month ago I purchased a Rose tipped anemone and within 12 hours it decided to get sucked into the protein skimmer...then about 2 weeks ago I noticed the tiniest anemone starting to grow. It is now a little smaller than a dime. Can this be a piece of the one that got chewed up by the skimmer? Sure hope so it was beautiful.

Do you have any pics. Don't think so probaly a hitch hiker in your live rock. But i'm not a expert on anemonies.

I think it can happen. It would depend what sort of anemone it was though.

You say it was a purple tipped anemone, hmmm. I now some soft corals can reproduce by budding, but its highly unlikelly in your case.

Like chilid freak said, probably a travel companion on some LR.

Wait till it grows bigger, then youll know for sure! Goodluck!

Its possible but very rare to be honest.

If you have a small anemone appear on your live rock i would suggest you do a search for the following anemones.

Aiptasia

Majano

Both are nuisance anemones and are classed as pests.

i know i have one aiptasia right now on one of my rocks. what is the best way to kill it? can i just reach in and yank it right of the rock? or will this create more aiptasia?

ill put money on the fact you cant rip it out, there slimmy and fast and will disapear into the rock, if its just the one it will still spreed all over the place if you dont sort it, get a syringe boil some RO water and just attack the little bugger, i tried it on one of mine and it come of the rock whole and i just removed it, if you want to go over kill get some joes juice very effective :)

Trust me Joes Juice is the only way to go. It works right then and there, no spreading. Great stuff, well worth the money. DONT try to remove it, each cell can regenerate into a new adult. Joes Juice works every time, I cant say that about the other methods and I have tryied many of them.

Joes juice is awesome. However there is a word of caution.

If your tank is infested with it, its not wise to kill all aiptasia in one go as this will cause large ammonia spikes as all the aiptasia dies off. in hig infestations i would recomend that its done as a course of treatments over a period of a couple of weeks.

Peppermint shrimps will also handle small aiptasia
