Tinfoil Barb

they are very active and should get to at least 12" given the proper housing
id say best kept in groups of 6+ fish

Renowned "tank busters" their biggest problem has already been stated, they grow big and fast, and as you need a group, they require large quarters. In a big enough tank, they are very active but peaceful as long as the other tank occupants are to large to swallow - they are not aggressive, but like most fish, anything small enough to fit in their mouths will be simply regarded as a food item with no aggressive intention.

To fuel the rapid growth, they are "keen" eaters and care must be taken to ensure other fish in the tank get something, the Tinfoils are fast and attentive when food is around. They will eat pretty much anything, and a lot of it.

Also mentioned already, lawn mowers when it comes to plants.

I kept some for a while, with disasterous results.

I could not get any food past them to other fish in the tank, no matter what it was or how I tried to put it in they got everything and the other fish starved, this also resulted in the nitrates sky rocketing as I was adding twice as much food as should have been needed trying to beat the tinfoils.
The final straw came when i was trying to feed the bottom fish by dropping food down a pipe directly in front of the fish, i dropped a mussel down in front of a Sorubim lima which grabbed it immiediately only for a tinfoil barb to actually rip the shovelnose's gill cover off in its attempt to get to the mussel in the catfishes mouth. The tinfoils went back to the shop the next morning, the catfish survived and most of its gill cover grew back, but it still has a small portion missing to this day.

thats why i got rid of mine
i was going through so much bloodworm trying to get some down to the ray pup it was ridiculous
