I was in my local B & Q at the weekend on the way into the store they had items for £1. One of the items was a timer switch for £1.

They are the standard dial segment style switches that are in only 1/2 hour intervals, but this should be fine for most uses.

Struck me as a bargain.

Sorry if this is not the right place to post but it seemed appropriate.

Bugger!! my nearest B&Q is about 30 miles away!!

Thanx for letting us know though ;o)

I bought 4 of them as they seemed a bargain, I only needed one but the four were the same price as what I was looking to pay for one. I have been using two of them since the weekend, one on the lights for a tank and the other on a normal light in the house that we had on a timer before it got nabbed for one of the tanks! Its amazing how many of these things you *need* once you start keeping fish.

We have gone from 1 to 3 tanks in 6 months!

So I guess it maybe down to luck, I might swap out the two being used for the other two just so that they have all had a run in before they need to be used. Better to have any failures while we are around!

Why not just run a multi block off one timer?

Anyway, the B&Q timers are absolute crap. They lose over an hour in every 24! Over the course of a week, your timer is over 8 hours out of sync

I've found that with every 'segment' timer I've ever used, not all THAT bad, but time losses none the less. Recently bought a couple of multipacks of slimline digital timers from Argos and they are bang on every day. It's nice to have everythign in synch again :)

With the tanks in different rooms and only wanting to control the lights on each its one per tank.

Haven't noticed time loss myself, but I'll keep an eye on it.
