Tigers And Gouramis?

I read somewhere recently that tiger barbs are ok with certain gouramis (namely the pearl and few others). Is this true?!? It says it's not compatible with others (such as croaking) or with angelfish, so I'm wondering why it's ok to be in with certain ones.
Anyone have these together with good results?

Actually - didn't I see you on the gourami forum when Sylvia said that it wasn't ok to keep pearls with tigers because of their fin ray extensions
That's why angelfish aren't recommended either - nice long dangly fins for the tigers to nip at.

I'm not saying they will - if you've got a big group of them - just that the temptation is always there.

Yeah, that was me!
I was thinking the same thing about the gourami... nice long fins just waiting for a nip! I didn't see how that could be true, but it got me to wondering if anyone actually did that and was able to pull it off, ya know? There's so many lies out here on the world wide web... some just make you go "huh!?!"
