Seen some tigers for sale at reasonable price. New to endlers though have guppies
1. If I get a male and female Tiger endler/guppy hybrid-do they breed true(ie.all fry tigers not guppies or weird hybrids)
2. How can you tell they are actually tigers not guppies , esp females?

By definition, hybrids don't "breed true".

According to my sources, it's pretty common for Endler guppy males to be sold with common guppy females. While this shouldn't be the case, it is, and whether the blame lies with the retailers, wholesalers, or the fish farms is difficult to say. If you want to be sure you're getting female Endlers you need to know where the fish came from, and often that's best done via a fish club auction or some other trustworthy source.

Cheers, Neale

Tiger endlers if from a breeder should breed true with little variation over a couple of generation's.
If you get any other looking males then do not breed from them.

How ever it's rare to find shop with females as these dont sell as well. but if ur lucky and as Neale says they have not been mixed at some point you may get them going.

I must agree with both statements. Hybrids do not breed true, they are hybrids. Guppy / endler crosses that have been bred to fix the color pattern are only hybrids in the sense that their ancestors are not pure reticulata or pure wingeii. Things like tiger endlers, the result of a guppy endler cross at some point, are not hybrids in the traditional sense of being a mix of parents that are not the same. A tiger endler is often a well established line breeding that had ancestry at some point in the past that was a hybrid. The line breeding is used to fix the color pattern by removing anything that differs from the target pattern at each generation. The resulting fish do breed true in many cases.

Thanks guys. They are from a private breeder and I'm off to get them Now! Plan to get a pair as he claims to have females. Will repost when I get them home

Went to his home. He has a large tank ful of tigers, 3 generations all breeding true from grandparents to fry. Males have lovely colours with yellow and black tiger bodies and fancy tails, some lyretails. Lots of females too, all plain silver and smaller than female guppies.
Bought a pair for £5, hope they breed. Fingers crossed!
