tiger barbs

just bought some tiger barbs and lady at store said that she did'nt know what sex they were as you can't tell , is this correct ? I have three and two of them have stronger colourings and red dashes on their tails and the other is paler , any ideas ?

Easiest way to tell is that the Male will have a bright red nose, the female's will be much duller

Males look more like an arrow head and females are rounder. That is the most accurate way I know of.

Mature male tiger barbs will have bright red noses and females will not. I heard from one LFS that female anal fins are round but I'm not sure about that. In general, males are usually a little more colorful.

thanks everyone , taking your advice i think i have 1 male and 2 females which is good , i will get some more ina couple of weeks

It's best to have a group of 6 to 8 tiger barbs, so a couple more would be good.

Great picture....The best way is by body shape....I've found that sexing just by colour is not the easiest and most accurate way to do it as they all seem to have red snouts ...

The female in that picture looks like its either holding eggs or way overfed
