I,m thinking of getting 8 to ten Tiger Barbs, will they be ok with my Phantom and serpae tetras also have a few platys.?

All I know is that that they can be quite aggressive towards slow moving fish like guppy's. Nipping there fins etc. Tetras so I believe are quite fast. The simple thing is basically is to keep them with active fish. As for the platy's check with other members. Hope it helps and good luck. :good:

I've kept tiger barbs with tetras and platies and never had any problems with having them together. As long as your tank's big enough (I'd say at least 3 feet long; they are a very active fish), you keep enough of them and don't try to put angels or guppies in there you shouldn't have any problems.

Its a 3 foot tank nearing the end of its fishless cycle, No guppies or angel fish will be going in the tank.

Well, you could certainly have 8 or 10 tigers then; they're a great fish; always busy; they're a bit like little football hooligans in their stipey shirts though! Mine scrap all the time but rarely do any damge :)

Nice, that sums them up to a T.

I am not an expert, and can only speak from my personal experience. Back in college (we are talking 20 years ago) I had tiger barbs. Of the 100's of fish I have had since, these were the most mean-spirited fish I have seen!

10 tiger barbs have been in about 2 weeks, 1 died he was doing sumersaults never found out why but the rest are doing great with the community.

the secret with tiger barbs is to have as big of a group as possible , 10 and upwards being ideal . this tends to keep any squabling etc within the group itself and makes integrating them with other fish much easier. i loved having my tiger barbs , fantastic little fish , they certainly bring activity to the tank .

i would class them as boisterous rather than aggressive .

As long as they are kept in groups of 6 or more,.... they are a pleasure.... Less than that, they get bored and are prone to be fin nipping..... Just no fish with flowing long fins in with them (no matter what size)... they go for long fins.....
