Hi I have 8 tiger barbs......some of the day they are very active and swimming around, but in the evenings they seem to be nose down tail up!!! Is this normal or is there a problem, they have been in the tank for a year now.

Cheers Brads

Yup. One of my rainbow cichlids actually LAYS DOWN on the bottom of the tank to sleep! Goofy thing. He got poked with a piece of tubing many many times before I realized that's just what he does. He's done it for years now.

omg! i have this same experiance, i purchased 5 tiger barbs and the next day i saw just one of them standing on his nose with his tail upwards, i thought he was sick and dying. it appears that is what they like to do sort of bathing in the water hehe. when i see him he is swiming perfectly fine but now and then i look over and that is exactly what he is doing haha. no need to panic as i did i believe this is their behavioure :)

Cheers guys.....Went to three LFS's today and they all said the same thing. They do act like this in the evenings.......but also it can be a sign of nitrite in the water so if they start doing in all the time I would get concerned. Tested my water and nitrite is at 0, so alls as it should be.
I also got the shop to do water tests for me and they said everything appears to be ok........so to celebrate I bought two tigers and a green one to go with my other barbs :hyper:
