Most books seem to suggest that Tiger Barbs grow to 3 inches – has anyone ever seen that? The biggest Tiger Barbs I’ve ever seen were 1 ½ inches – anyone seen bigger??

Cheers
Andy

The book may have been referring to fish in the wild, as Andy said I dont think they get anywhere near that size in a normal home aquarium.

My tiger barbs are at least 2" each. I'll see if I can get a more accurate measurement of them when I get home from work today. However, I must say that people comment on them looking as if I feed them steroids - they're considerably bigger than most tiger barbs I see.

From the books and info i have collected about these dudes, they apparently grow to 57mm. How they can say that so accurately i don't know?

I'm sure in the wild they would grow bigger and probably meaner as well.

My local pestmart sells adult tiger barbs that are 3 inches. They also get a hump on their back right before their dorsal fin when they are that big. They are always head butting each other and circling each other in the tank. I had problems with tiny ones. Can't even imagine how aggressive the big ones could be.

hi there,
our tiger & green tigers barbs started off as little tiddlers 6 months ago about
----- big and are now -------------- not including their tail fins :D :D but then theyre probably the best fed fish in the world........ theyre not aggressive at all, they have their little dominance spats with eachother every now & again ( where they spin around back & forth nose to nose ) but no nipping/biting/damage at all & we've never seen them have a go at anything else in our tank & we do watch them a lot. its more them that get chased by other occupants (peppered corys like to shoo them off every now & again )
