I have a 55 gallon tank and I've added seven tiger barbs. After a couple days One died so I replaced it and another died the next day .I think it was the new tiger. The six remaining don't seem to be very active. They like to hide together under a log in the tank. Is this normal? or should they be swimming around a lot? My ammonia and nitrite are at zero so I think the tank is cycling right.

A healthy pack of tigers should be roaming your tank almost constantly....They are very sensitive to even slightly high Nitrite & Nitrate levels...I'd check my readings on those right away...They are not a good fish for newly or still cycling tanks. Just like most barbs they do much better in tanks they get frequent small water changes. You will be able to tell if they are not thriving when you see them hanging in the water with there head pointed down....If you see this sort of behavior you should do a water change. Think of Tiger barbs as being an early warning system for your water chemistry....WHen healthy and fine they will roam and explore your tank looking for food almost constantly...When there not doing so hot you'll see them hanging around.
