I wouldn't put them in a 12 gal. Tiger barbs need a lot of swimming space. I wouldn't put them in anything smaller than a 30 gal.

We've got a community tank with 6 Tiger Barbs in. They got a bit "nippy" with the other fish when they were in the 16 gallon tank. Now we have them in a 40 gallon and they are much much happier.

As mentioned they do like lots of room to hurtle around.

I also agree, no way on the six tiger barbs in a 12 gal. I have six of them in a 20 gal, and I really want to get a bigger tank for them so they can have more swimming room. They are very active fish.... I would agree that a 30 gal is the smallest tank (you could probably get away with a long 20 gal).

A 29 gal isn't going to work either because it is just wider and taller than the standard 20 gal.

Nope. Need more room. Even if they can take aggression in big tanks, they might get really cranky in a small tank. Also, as said, they are active and therefore would live more room, which also allows for more O2 (when properly aerated).
