Hi
My daughter and her b/f were driving back from the beach yesterday, when they noticed a horse at the side of the road. They stopped and found that it was chained to a fence, although it appeared that the chain was quite long and the fence was pretty rickety. They thought the horse looked pretty thin too. So they called the RSPCA from the roadside. They were told, "Horses are left to graze at the sides of roads quite often", "If the chain was long enough for the animal to get on to the road it was a police matter not theirs". And then they told my daughter to monitor the horse!!!!!!

So. possible cruelty case and/or abandonment, likelihood of harm coming to the animal, and our great RSPCA do nothing. And ironically the local branch is about 25 minutes from where this horse was!

And thats why they dont get my donations

All it takes is one stupid driver to speed past to startle the horse causing it injury. The RSPCA should atleast check it out. I remember not so long ago, we had a bat fly into our living room one day, called the RSPCA and they came within 10 minutes. Surely if they could come to check out something as little as a bat, they could atleast check on the horse, thats not right atall.

Sorry if that doesnt make sense, im under the influence of alcohol :good:

Thing is a bat is a protected species. The latest RSPCA report makes for eye opening reading, basically more money in, less money spent

We give donations once a month to the RSPCA, only £5, but it's something. They ring atleast once a month asking if we could give more

What a cheek  I'd seriously consider reading their annual statement????

So what happened with the horse? did your daughter watch it? I bet if she took it someone would have come out there!!

LOL....yep she went home and got her tent to set up on the roadside

Thing is, the location of the horse isn't that close to where they live, so its not easy for her to check on it. They dont know who it could of belonged to, as there are no houses nearby???

There is an on going report in "private eye" magazine about the procedures of the rspca. It seems they are more interested in getting people into court to raise funds then preventative action. I know of an alsation that was tied up in a garden and abandoned and they didnt want to know.

Do you have a local horse sanctuary around that you might be able to call for help? They're often a lot more willing to help out and keep an eye on the horse than the RSPCA. Plus they actually know what to look for to see what condition a horse is in.

I've only ever heard bad about the RSPCA, plus had personal bad experience with them as well. We saw a cat get hit by a car and called the RSPCA as we didn't know what to do, we were simply told that if he/she looked dead we could call a number and they'd come pick it up in the morning. They refused to come out to have a look when we said we weren't sure whether she was dead or not. They were proper nasty on the phone as well. As was the police, who apparently only come out for humans. *sigh*

She did die btw, we found out she was called 'mum' and had a litter of 7. We put posters up around the area to find the owner, unfortunately she never had a chance to say goodbye as we couldn't keep a dead cat in a box around for too long.

No, the RSPCA will never get my respect.

Say all the right things and do nothing. Spend all their time opposing the keeping of 'exotic' pets while largely ignoring the common domestic animals that are neglected and abused. They have more of a problem with me keeping frogs in fish tanks than if I were to lock my cat in a basement, not vaccinate or desex it, not feed it properly, and kick it around into the bargain.

RSPCA are rubbish anyway... most of the warden people don't have a clue what they're going on about.

And don't get me started on their views on reptiles.

lol OMG yes! I love when they try telling me i have an illigal species and that im keeping them wrong. It just ends up with me giving them a talk about how to keep them right which they usually wish they never asked. I hate nasty neighbours.

RSPCA are a waste of money...
